How many submitters were invited to give oral evidence to the Justice and Electoral Committee on the Electoral Finance Bill on Monday, 17 September 2007?

None. On 17 September the committee heard from submitters who had requested to be heard. The committee heard from 23 submitters who had requested to be heard at that meeting.

Why was it that those submitters who requested to be heard were rushed through their evidence on Monday, 17 September, and the committee has had to meet outside normal sittings hours, including during the adjournment, yet only 15 minutes have been set aside to consider this matter at tomorrow’s meeting?

The member, who is the deputy chair of the committee, has misinformed the House, and is either confused or deliberately being misleading. However, the issue is committee business and those decisions will be made by the committee.
