When will the committee report on the bill in my name, the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Bill?

The Transport and Industrial Relations Committee currently has a report-back date for the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Bill of 6 October 2008.

Will the chairperson confirm that that effectively means the bill will not be reported back before the House rises for the general election, and will he further confirm that the reason for this is pressure of work within the committee on other matters, not a desire to keep a contentious matter from coming back to the House pre-election?

WilsonMadam SPEAKER Link to this

I think the first part of the question can be answered, but not the second.

GoscheHon MARK GOSCHE Link to this

I cannot confirm that. The committee will determine its work in accordance with the workload, which is heavy at the moment, but some of the bills we are working on are near conclusion.
