BrownleeGERRY BROWNLEE (Deputy Leader—National) Link to this

I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. I wonder whether this question might be held over until later in the session when the Minister of Māori Affairs will be able to be with us. I have a copy of his diary and he is certainly available, but clearly detained in getting to question time.

WilsonMadam SPEAKER Link to this

It is for the Government to decide who in fact answers the question. Is the member seeking leave?

BrownleeGERRY BROWNLEE Link to this

I sought leave.

WilsonMadam SPEAKER Link to this

Sorry, I had not realised you were seeking leave. Leave is sought. Is there any objection? There is objection.

BrownleeGERRY BROWNLEE Link to this

They say “You can run but you can’t hide.”, but the member cannot do either.

WilsonMadam SPEAKER Link to this

The member will please just ask the question. [ Interruption] We are trying to keep order in this House and it is comments like that that create disorder. Would members please just ask their questions and give the answers.

BrownleeGERRY BROWNLEE Link to this

I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. It also causes disorder when the Government decides that Ministers are not capable of answering questions and therefore does not let them come to the House.

CullenHon Dr Michael Cullen Link to this

There is no truth in that matter. As the member can neither run nor hide, there is no need for him to raise the sensitive issue.

WilsonMadam SPEAKER Link to this

I do not think this is getting us anywhere. Would the member just ask the question.

BrownleeGERRY BROWNLEE Link to this

I am happy to take Parekura on over the 100-metres.

Well, that is our humour quota for the day.
