I have not had a chance to talk to Mr Copeland or to other party whips. I am not sure whether there has been an arrangement on this matter, and I am not quite sure what the effect of this is. It would be useful, perhaps, if we could start Mrs Chadwick’s bill and maybe have a discussion with Mr Copeland and the whips to work out—

The important thing from my point of view is to try to get my vote registered. If the course outlined by Darren Hughes would help me to achieve that goal, then I would be happy to defer the matter and seek leave in a few minutes’ time, after I have had the chance to talk to Darren and other whips.
