11. KEITH LOCKE (Green) Link to this
to the Minister of Police
Does she believe that the use of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 by the Police is justified and appropriate; if so, why?
Hon ANNETTE KING (Minister of Police) Link to this
It is not for the Minister of Police to decide when, if, or whom it is appropriate for the police to prosecute, or what Act they will use for that prosecution.
Does she agree with the former Minister of Justice Phil Goff back in 2003 when he said: “Terrorism should be dealt with under general criminal law wherever possible because terrorist acts are usually criminal offences committed with an ideological, political, or religious motive.”, and is she confident that where a terrorist offence has been invoked to date, there was not a criminal offence that could have stood in its place?
